Two small-scale miners are reported to have died while two others have been injured following the collapse of a pit at the Marera mine at Kerende village in Tarime district , Mara region.
The incident occurred yesterday morning at the mine owned by artisanal miners, according to reports from the area.
Kerende village chairman Muniko Magabe confirmed the death of the two miners as the injured have been rushed to hospital.
“The pit here collapsed; two miners died while two others were injured and rushed to hospital,” Magabe told Lake Zone Watch by phone from the scene of accident where he participated in the rescue operation.
