Tanzanian prominent academic Prof Kabudi named information minister

Tanzanian president Samia Suluhu Hassan on Sunday made a mini-cabinet reshuffle, appointing law professor Palamagamba Kabudi minister of information, culture, arts and sports.

Prof Kabudi, 68, is an experienced politician having previously served as foreign minister and minister of justice and constitutional affairs. Before joining politics, he taught law at the University of Dar es Salaam.

President Samia’s move is aimed at instilling efficiency and accountability to match with the obtaining socio-economic and political conditions that Tanzania currently undergoes in revitalising its economy by attracting investments in key sectors.

Ministries involved in the changes include livestock and fisheries, justice and constitutional affairs, communications and information technology, home affairs and works.

The president has also appointed a permanent secretary and deputy permanent secretaries and new ambassadors who include a senior woman police officer.

President Samia also named a prominent medical guru, Prof Mohamed Janabi, her advisor on health issues. Prof Janabi will continue as the director-general of the country’s leading referral hospital, the Muhimbili National Hospital.
