Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) Commissioner of Conservation (CC), Juma Kuji has directed the management of the Serengeti National Park to immediately rehabilitate some impassable portions of the roads in the park to allow easy movement of tourists.

Kuji gave the directive yesterday after an inspection tour of roads in the vast Serengeti National Park to assess the damage caused by the ongoing rains.

“Although we’re facing the challenge of the ongoing rains, we cannot wait until the stop and then begin road maintenance. The management should ensure that all roads are passable,” he directed.

The TANAPA chief thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan for disbursing funds for road repair in the national parks to allow tourism to flourish.

He said TANAPA has laid strategies to ensure that the infrastructure in the national parks countrywide is improved to whet the appetite of the visiting holidaymakers.

Speaking at the same occasion, TANAPA Assistant Commissioner of Conservation responsible for infrastructure, Dr Richard Matolo, said the agency has been using various technologies in road construction as a solution to ensure the roads remain passable all the year round.

The head of the Serengeti National Park, Assistant Commissioner of Conservation Moronda Moronda, assured the TANAPA chief that the park’s management will rehabilitate all portions of the roads that hamper easy travel.

On her part, Senior Commissioner for Conservation responsible for communication, Catherine Mbena, said: “Our organisation’s objective is to ensure tourists coming to our national parks go back home with fond memories after enjoying the tourist attractions not found elsewhere in the world.”

Serengeti National Park has recently experienced destruction of roads because of the current heavy rains as TANAPA authorities are making every effort to ensure that all roads in the area are passable throughout the year.
