Sheer bravery by two pilots, including assistance from officials of Kikoboga airstrip in Mikumi National Park in Morogoro region, saved the lives of 30 passengers and an attendant when a light aircraft developed a technical problem during landing yesterday morning.
With registration No. 5H-MJH, EMBRAER 120 type, and property of Unity Air, the airplane was travelling from Zanzibar to Mikumi National Park.
A Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) press statement issued by Senior Conservation Officer in Charge of Communications, Catherine Mbena said concerted efforts were made by the pilots and officials at Kikoboga airstrip to ensure that the lives of the 30 passengers, two pilots and an attendant were not endangered.
According to the statement, all the 33 people aboard the aircraft “are safe and continuing with their tour of Mikumi National Park, while the airstrip is also safe for landing”.
TANAPA has communicated with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch of the Ministry Transport for further action on the Mikumi accident, according to the press statement .
