Former Mbeya Urban Mbeya Member of Parliament on the opposition CHADEMA party ticket, Joseph Mbilinyi, alias, Sugu, has won the chairmanship of his party for the Nyasa zone in an election held yesterday Wednesday May 29.
He defeated fellow contestant Peter Msigwa, also a former Member of Parliament of Iringa Urban constituency.
Mbilinyi won by 54 votes (51 per cent) while Msigwa collected 52 votes (49 per cent) in an election held at Makambako town in Wanging’ombe district.
The two contestants lost their parliamentary seats in the 2020 general election in which Mbilinyi was defeated by the current Speaker of Parliament, Dr Tulia Ackson while Msigwa lost his seat to current MP Jesca Msambatavangu.
The Nyasa zone vice-chairmanship seat went to Frank Mwakajoka, also a former MP for Tunduma constituency in Mbozi district.
