School dormitories inaugurated in Serengeti as Uhuru Torch enters Mara region

Three dormitories worth 220 million shillings built to accommodate students at Robanda High School in Serengeti District became the first project to be inaugurated when the 2024 Uhuru Torch Race entered in Mara Region early today.

Uhuru Torch race leader Godfrey Mnzava received the honour to inspect and open the project shortly after the Mara Regional Commissioner Col Evans Mtambi, led thousands of Serengeti district residents to receive the country’s national symbol of freedom and hope from Arusha region.

Robanda High School and its sister primary school are located in Western Serengeti integral part of the Serengeti ecosystem teeming with wildlife from the tiny plant-eating hare to the towering elephant.

In Mara region, a total of 72 projects in various key sectors of the national economy worth nearly 25bn/- will be inspected and inaugurated during the Torch Race before being handed over to neighbouring Simiyu region.

The nine-day Torch race carries the theme of environmental protection and mobilisation of voters for the forthcoming local government elections.
