Samia appoints new TBS Director-General, sacks Misungwi DED

President Samia Suluhu Hassan yesterday appointed Dr Ashura Abdul Katunzi, the new Director-General of the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS).

The new appointee, who takes over after the expiry of the term of former director-general Athuman Yusuf Ngenya, was formerly the bureaus head of quality control.

The state-run standards watchdog was created in 1975 mandated with undertaking measures for quality control of products of all descriptions and to promoting standardisation in industry and commerce.

It has played a major role in complementing national efforts to offer products of better quality and higher competitive edge on both the internal and external markets, with the overall objective of promoting the availability of good and safe products for the Tanzanian public as well as enhancing economic development.

Meanwhile, according to a State House statement issued yesterday, President Samia has dismissed the Misungwi District Executive Director, Joseph Constantine Mafuru and named Addo Missama to replace him. No reasons were given for the dismissal.

The president also appointed Hassan Juma Mnyika, the Kilolo District Executive Director replacing Lain Ephraim Kamendu who has retired.
