Kenyan President William Ruto has vowed that his first task as chairman of the East African Community (EAC) is to strengthen the regional grouping’s economic position by attracting more investments.
Historically, East Africa is a single unit which has immense potential in economic development because of its abundant human and natural resources.
President Ruto, who was last Saturday elected EAC chairman by Heads of State of member countries of the bloc, said combined efforts are necessary to push East Africa to the height of its socio-economic development.
Ruto took over the EAC chair from South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir who completed his tenure. His election was made at the EAC 24 Summit of Heads of State held in the northern tourist city of Arusha.
The EAC chair position is rotational among Heads of State of the fast expanding grouping in terms of population increase and the flow of foreign investments.
