In a landmark development, Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the Rwanda Atomic Energy Board during the prestigious International Forum ATOMEXPO-2024 held on Tuesday.
The agreement heralds TPU as the pioneering Russian university to establish ties with the Rwanda Atomic Energy Council, marking a significant milestone in international cooperation.
The signing ceremony, attended by dignitaries and experts from both institutions, saw TPU’s Acting Rector, Dr Leonid Sukhikh and Rwanda Atomic Energy Board’s Director General, Dr Fidele Ndahayo formalize a promising collaboration to advance education and research in nuclear physics and technology.
Together, the two entities will embark on joint academic initiatives, opening doors for Rwandan students to pursue studies at various levels within TPU’s esteemed programs.
Furthermore, the memorandum outlines plans for knowledge exchange through professional development courses, seminars, and internships. Leveraging modern tools and technologies, including distance learning platforms, will facilitate seamless collaboration between the institutions.
Dr Sukhikh underscored TPU’s distinguished role as a flagship university within Rosatom’s network, citing its rich legacy in human resources development and groundbreaking contributions to nuclear science.
Dr Ndahayo emphasized the strategic importance of partnering with TPU to drive human capital development in Rwanda’s burgeoning nuclear industry.
He outlined plans for mobility programs aimed at fostering cross-cultural exchanges and enriching learning experiences for students and professionals alike.
Rwanda seats within the East Africa Community block which has other seven members including Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, DRC, South Sudan and Somalia.
