The Human Rights Centre at the Mwanza-based Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) has bitterly condemned the killing of a Nyamwaga village youth in Tarime district identified as Jack Nyamonge.

The director of the SAUT Human Rights Centre, Advocate Moses Matiko Misiwa has threatened that his centre would carry out independent investigations if the police force fails to issue a public statement on what actually happened.

“It’s important for the police force to issue its own investigative report explaining what took place as the police are alleged to be behind the whole saga as a hospital report confirms Nyamonge was killed,” he said.

“If they fail to respond to this, we shall conduct an independent inquiry and inform the government. The law allows us to do so,” he added.

Available reports show that Jack Nyamonge was among 21 persons on the police wanted list of criminals committing various offences.

Efforts to reach the Tarime-Rorya Regional Police Commander, Mark Njera for comment proved futile.
