Forty-seven people have died in Hanang district in Manyara region while 85 others have been injured following heavy rains which pounded the area Saturday night.

Manyara Regional Commissioner Queen Sendiga who toured the disaster area yesterday confirmed the deaths as rescue operations continue to recover more bodies suspected to have been buried in mud slides caused by the floods.

Already, President Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed state organs dealing with rescue operations to work diligently in preventing more deaths in the area.

“Let’s pray for the affected victims and those in the forefront of the rescue operations. We’re lucky to have rain in Katesh area, but unfortunately it has brought misfortunes,” she said yesterday from Dubai where she is attending the global climate meeting.
