President Samia Suluhu Hassan has instructed two ministries of Education, Science and Technology and Information, Communication and Information Technology to install internet services for rural schools covered by the national grid, to enable students to take their science examinations via the net.
The President gave the directive during the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the National Examinations Council of Tanzania ( NECTA), while stressing that the government has invested heavily in Information Technology to facilitate the operations of the exams body, which include registration of candidates, printing and marking of exams and processing of the results.
She said the government would continue to empower NECTA and teachers, to ensure teaching, learning and examinations are conducted with maximum professionalism, to help the exam candidates cope with the needs of information technology.
She also called upon the Ministry of Education and NECTA to look for solutions to curb exam cheating.
