President Samia leads multitudes of Mwanza residents during conclusion of Uhuru Torch Race

President Samia Suluhu Hassan accompanied by the country’s top brass yesterday led hundreds of thousands of residents of Mwanza region and other neighbouring regions at the conclusion of the six-month Uhuru Torch Race, an occasion which was held at the CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza city.

It was an event marked by pomp and pageantry as people of all walks of life filled the Kirumba Stadium to the brim beginning early mourning yesterday.

This year’s Uhuru Torch Race main theme was about environmental conservation and prople’s active participation in the forthcoming November 27 local government ekections.

The national event also marked the 25th death annversary of founder President Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, who died at London hispital on October 14, 1999.

Before presiding over the Uhuru Torch Race climax, President Samia attended a holy mass held at the Mwanza city Catholic Church in honour of Mwalimu Nyerere, one of Africa’s foremost freedom fighters against colonial rule.
