President Samia Suluhu Hassan has commended Dar es Salaam residents and the defence and security agencies for their tireless efforts in rescuing victims of the collapsed building in Kariakoo area in Dar es Salaam.
The president yesterday told a mass of people gathered at the scene of the accident that the incident did not only touch the souls of the victims’ family members but it was also a national tragedy to Tanzanians of all persuasions.
The Kariakoo building accident on November 16 caused the deaths of 20 people while more than 80 others were injured.
Upon her arrival from Brazil’s G20 summit yesterday, the president immediately rushed to the scene of the accident to see ongoing rescue operations which she ordered on Tuesday to continue for 24 hours after the required 72-hour international deadline.
President Samia already directed Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa to lead a task force to conduct the safety of all Kariakoo area buildings following incidents of collapsing of high-rise buildings in recent years.
Thr president promised to have an audience at the State House with all people, including defence and security agencies involved in the Kariakoo November 16 accident rescue operations.
She also toured Muhimbili National Hospital to see the conditions of the the accident victims.
