President Samia Suluhu Hassan yesterday congratulated US president-elect Donald Trump for his Tuesday election victory over his Democratic opponent Vice-President Kamala Harris.
The 78-year-old Trump recaptured the White House after losing the 2020 election to incumbent president, Joe Biden.
Trump won the US presidency for the first time in 2016 and as per the American Constitution he stayed in power for four years from 2017 to 2021.
In her congratulatory message, President Samia said Tanzania is looking forward to working with the US government for strengthening the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.
Tanzania, which won independence from Britain in 1961, established relations with the US since the days of founder president Julius Nyerere and his American counterpart, John. F. Kennedy.
The East African country has benefited from US aid in various key sectors of the national economy such as education, health, agriculture and industry, just to name few.
Meanwhile, US Vice-President Kamala Harris, conceding defeat in Tuesday’s election, has congratulated her Republican opponent Donald Trump for making a political comeback.
Harris, a Democrat, is the second US female presidential contender in recent years after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lost her election to Trump in 2016.
