Police seize 9bn/- gold haul stolen from Bulyanhulu gold mine

Police in Shinyanga Region have seized gold weighing 6,753.4 grammes worth 9.2bn/- stolen from Bulyanhulu gold mine.

Shinyanga Regional Police Commander (RPC) Janeth Magoni was quoted this morning by the press as saying the gold which was stashed in a bucket and 262 kilogrammes of carbon believed to contain gold, were intercepted at Manzese area in Kahama District, during police patrols conducted in the past one month, from July 26 to August 22, 2023.

Several people are in police custody in connection with the theft from the gold mine.

Bulyanhulu gold mine is operated in partnership between Barrick Gold Corporation and the Government, through Twiga Minerals Corporation.

Apart from the gold haul, the police also recovered a rifle no. 2/949PF 78701, 20kgs of marijuana, 606 litres of diesel, one computer set, 3 motorcycles,14 boxes of tiles, 6 water pipes, 17 corrugated iron sheets, 120 packets of lethal beauty products and 2 cement bags.
