Police in the Tarime-Rorya Regional Zone are holding a 46-year-old man identified as Silas Nguka Nyamhanga for allegedly causing bodily harm to a female bar attendant, Jenipher Shaban, 31, who was demanding to be paid 24,000/- as money the arrested person was owed to drinks he had guzzled.

The incident in which Jenipher was severely beaten by Nyamhanga ultimately losing two teeth occurred on February 17 this year at Nyangoto village in Matongo ward in Tarime district.

According to a statement released by the Regional Police Commander of the Tarime-Rorya Zone, SACP Mark Njera, Nyamhanga, a sub-village leader at Majengo Mapya in Nyamongo, had allegedly lured the bar attendant to go with him to his home and collect the money, but upon entering his compound’s main gate he suddenly began hitting Jenipher with a club in many parts of her body.

The statement said it was Nyamhanga’s son who opened the main gate of their house to let Jenipher escape from the severe beating from his irate father.

SACP Njera warned in the statement that severe punitive action awaits cruel men who engage in any acts of gender violence.
