Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has directed the Ministry of Minerals to coordinate talks that will help resolve the compensation issue at North Mara Gold Mine.

The PM gave the instructions yesterday at a public rally in Nyamwaga, a few kilometers from North Mara, in Tarime Rural District Council, saying in order to get an amicable solution, the two sides should come to a negotiating table.

“We want this issue resolved once and for all, so that whenever a national leader visits Nyamongo, no such query is raised,’’ said the Prime Minister, stating that it should not just be taken lightly, but it was high time this came to an end.

North Mara Gold mine is owned by Barrick Gold Corporation in a partnership with the government of Tanzania, through Twiga Minerals Corporation.
