Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has urged Tanzanians, development stakeholders, public and private institutions to give priority to the agenda of environmental conservation through the implementation of the laid down regulations and guidelines.
Launching the 2024 Uhuru Torch Race at the Moshi Cooperative University grounds in Kilimanjaro region today, the Prime Minister laid emphasis on the current threats to the earth’s surface which include environmental degradation and climate change.
He said it was the responsibility of Tanzanians at all levels of the society to be environmentally friendly as the country experiences a surging population in the decades ahead.
The premier also used the occasion to appeal to voters to participate fully in the forthcoming 2024 local government elections in choosing the leaders they want.
This year’s Uhuru Torch Race is celebrated as a historical event marking the 60th anniversary of the Union of the twin sister countries of Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar, which formed the United Republic of Tanzania on April 26, 1964.
