The President of the Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association (ZBCA) Dr Tinashe Manzungu announced that his country has so far implemented over 7 000 construction project since 2018.

Speaking during the ZBCA Regional Summit hosted which was held under the Theme: “Leveraging Investment in Infrastructure as a Catalyst for Economic Growth”; Manzungu said that this achievement among others are playing a significant value in the boosting of the country’s infrastructure.

“In recent years, we have made remarkable strides in the construction sector. Since 2018, over 7,000 projects have been implemented, and more than 5,000 have been officially commissioned. Significant improvements have also been made in our road infrastructure with over 33,000 kilometres completed road network. This achievement is particularly important as we aim to complete ongoing projects that continue to bolster our national infrastructure,” he said.

Manzungu said the collective target for ZBCA remains ambitious indicating that the organisation recognizes the need for extensive upgrading across all infrastructure projects to support urbanization.

He noted that Zimbabwe has been constructing new dams since 2021 where the government dedicated 10 billion USD for the development of 10 major dams which are part of a long-term plan that will support the agricultural sector and harness water for industrial and domestic use.

However, Manzungu noted that this has not yet yielded as per plan due to liquidity challenges and thus ZBCA ignited a partnership with Zimbabwe Investment & Development Agency (ZIDA) to promote Public Private Partnership that will foster economic growth through construction.

“This is one of the key reasons why we have ignited the ZBCA-ZIDA Collaboration, which will see investors linking with your local contractors in public and private infrastructure projects. In the 2nd quarter of 2025, Hon VP, we are expecting investment to the tune of at-least usd$100 Million worth of projects being done by our members,” he added.

“These strategic infrastructure investments are vital in fostering growth, job creation and improved living standards of our people. This is buttressed by the mantra of Vision 2030 of fostering an Upper Middle Income Economy.”

According to Manzungu, the Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association (ZBCA) was established in 1985 as a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering emergent building contractors across various sectors.

Our mission is crystal clear: to promote, empower, and capacitate our growing membership while advocating for equity, fairness and justice within the construction sector.
