North Mara Gold Mine inaugurates 2024 ‘Mahusiano’ Cup in Nyamongo

North Mara Gold Mine (NMGM) at the weekend inaugurated its annual Mahusiano Cup football competition at a ceremony held at Ingwe Secondary School in the fast growing town of Nyamongo in Tarime District, Mara Region .

The joint event between NMGM and the Tarime District Council will officially kick-off on Tuesday August 14 involving 15 teams from 11 rural villages surrounding the gold mine.

Under the slogan “Mahusiano Bora kwa Uwekezaji Endelevu” (Good Relations for Sustainable Investment), the competition mainly focuses on strengthening cordial relations between the gold mine and the population in the surrounding villages.

Officiating at the ceremony, Tarime District Commissioner Col Maulid Surumbu underscored the importance of mutual coexistence between the mine and nearby communities to push the national agenda of economic growth.

On his part, NMGM General Manager, Mr Apolinary Lyambiko said sports were the foundation of good health and job creation, adding that the Mahusiano Cup was an instrument to enhance community relations.

Speaking on the same occasion, Kemambo ward councillor, Mr Rashid Bogomba urged the competition participants to use that opportunity in condemning acts of intruding the gold mine for stealing gold.

North Mara Gold mine is owned by Barrick Gold Corporation in a partnership with the government of Tanzania, through Twiga Minerals.
