Nominated MP Mbarouk quits parliamentary seat

Nominated Member of Parliament Mbarouk Nassor Mbarouk has resigned, according to a letter he wrote to parliamentary speaker Dr Tulia Ackson yestetday.

Mbarouk was one of the two deputy ministers in the foreign ministry.

He was nominated as Member of Parliament on March 31, 2021, by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, just 12 days after she came to power following the death of her predecessor Dr John Magufuli on March 17, 2021.

In his resignation letter to Parliament Speaker Dr Ackson, Mbarouk said he needed time to deal with the social challenges facing him.

Before his appointment as deputy foreign minister, Mbarouk was Tanzania’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, also accredited to Bahrain, Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan.

According to the Constitution of Tanzania, the president is empowered to nominate 10 parliamentarians to enter the bloated National Assembly that includes members elected from constituencies and those chosen on the basis of women special seats.
