NMB Bank yesterday donated 50 beds worth more than 17m/- as support towards disabled pupils at the Madaraka Primary School in Butiama district, Mara region.
NMB Bank is one of Tanzania’s financial institutions promoting inclusive and equitable societies for sustainable development through strategic partnerships as aligned to the Tanzania Development Vision 2025 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Speaking yesterday at the handing-over ceremony in Butiama, NMB Zonal Manager, Wogofya Mfalamagoha, said his bank has joined several other institutions in the country to reinvigorate the education sector and combat the scourge of ignorance in the society.
He said children with special needs in the society have the right to get education in a friendly environment, a responsibility which should be shouldered by the society and other stakeholders instead of placing the burden on the government alone.
Guest of honour at the ceremony, Butiama District Commissioner, Moses Kaegele, thanked NMB Bank for being closer to the people as part of implementing its community social responsibility role.
Kaegele grabbed that opportunity to urge parents and guardians with disabled children to send them to school, saying the President Samia Suluhu Hassan government is continuing to improve an enabling environment through infrastructural development.
The District Commissioner was harsh to Butiama district residents who he said hide their disabled children instead of sending them to school.
He said the government has spent more than 150m/- for building a dormitory for children with special needs at Madaraka Primary School, the major aim being to solve the challenge of travelling long distances, which often led to absenteeism.
