Natural Resources and Tourism minister Angellah Kairuki yesterday sworn-in Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) Commissioner of Conservation Musa Nassoro Kuji Juma, charging him with the task of implementing 14 directives, the foremost being to protect the country’s abundant wildlife resources.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan appointed the new TANAPA chief to the top position of the state-led national agency.

At a ceremony held at the TANAPA head office in Arusha, Kairuki urged Kuji and his management team to mount vigorous patrols of the national parks to fight such acts as turning them into grasslands for grazing livestock and mining centres.

The minister’s other directives hinged on efficient collection of revenue, procurement of advanced technological tools, improving the welfare of workers, and embarking on a sustained tourism promotion drive.

Speaking at the same occasion, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary Hassan Abbas, called for team work in realising TANAPA’S set goals at the same time pledging for the ministry’s support.

TANAPA Board of Trustees chairman, retired army chief, General George Waitara, praised Kuji’s elevation to such senior post and the trust bestowed on him by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

“Personally, I have no doubt with his experience of 33 years in this field of wildlife conservation. He will use this experience to propel the agency to greater heights,” he said.

On his part, Kuji promised that he and his fellow workers would tirelessly work for TANAPA’s development in protecting the country’s wildlife resources.
