Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority ( NCAA) has signed an agreement worth 97bn/- with SUMA-JKT in which the latter will construct 5,000 houses for people vacating the crater on their own accord.
The housing project is set to begin in October, 2023 and will last for six months, after which people will be given an option to take the government’s offer or settle in areas of their own choice, according to Conservation Commissioner Dr Freddy Manongi.
So far, the government has constructed 500 houses and 3,097 people have accepted the offer and left the crater, which is home to thousands of wildlife. In addition, 1,524 people have enrolled for voluntary exit from the crater.
