Mwanza Regional Commissioner Amos Makala has ordered a thorough verification of medical equipment at Buchosa District Hospital and all health centres amid allegations of theft scandals.
Makala gave the directive here recently during a meeting he held with staff of the hospital and cautioned over the growing elements of dishonesty among some workers, particularly in the health department.
The RC said some staff are suspected to have stolen the portable Utrasound machine worth 80m/- though it was secretly returned back after the culprits’ movements were traced.
He tasked Mwanza Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS) Balandya Elikana and Regional Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Thomas Rutachunzibwa to form a special committee to investigate into the theft allegations and bring all suspects to book.
“I am giving you seven days ultimatum to work on this matter and come back with findings that will lead to displinary and legal actions against the culprits, and verification of medical equipment must strictly be conducted immediately,” he said.
RC Makala said theft and abuse of ethics cannot be tolerated, warning the District Medical Officer (DMO) to take a close look at the state of affairs in his office.
