A single family of nine people in Tanzanias Tarime district in the north of the country has perished following heavy floods from the mighty Mori River whose waters flow to Lake Victoria.
The incident occurred on Sunday night when the house of the nine deceased people was swept away by the furious unexpected floods, district authorities reported on Monday.
The killer floods affected the family of one, Elias Ngare, a resident of Bugosi street, Nyamisangura ward, in Tarime town.
Nyamisangura ward councillor, Thobia Elias Ghati, said Monday that the bodies of the deceased persons have already been recovered and preserved at the Tarime Town Council hospital, a few kilometres from the scene of the accident.
Tarime District Commissioner, Maj. Flowin Edward Gowele, confirmed the incident, saying the floods have also left several other people of two families homeless.
