Mchengerwa: Surge in tourist arrivals boosts TANAPA revenue

Revenue collections at Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA ) and other tourism institutions has hit a record high, thanks to an influx of tourists, Minister for Natural Resources Mohamed Mchengerwa told Parliament in Dodoma yesterday.

Tabling his ministry’s budget estimates for the 2023/2024 financial year, the minister said tourism.

Institutions have broken their previous records, noting that TANAPA alone has collected 174bn/- in the 2021/22 financial year, and managed to collect 291bn/- in the last 10 months of this financial year.

“ This is the largest amount ever collected since the institutions were established, and the huge success is a result of concerted efforts in promotion and advertising of Tanzania’s tourist attractions and improvement of tourism infrastructure,’’ said Mchengerwa.

He said the corporation will carry on its campaign to strengthen security, ecology, tourism promotion , fee collection and improvement of infrastructure with the aim of attracting more and more visitors.

Some 500 kilometres of new roads will be constructed and another 10,500 kilometres are scheduled for repair, according to Minister Mchengerwa.
