Mara Regional CCM Chairman Patrick Chandi Marwa on Friday presided over a charity event where pledges of up to 602m/- and 690 bags of cement respectively, were made towards the construction of a mother-and-child single-storey ward at Nyamongo township in Tarime district.
The event was held on Friday at Ingwe Secondary School, where the ruling party chair, as guest of honour, contributed 5m/- in cash to strengthen health services for mothers and children as a priority area under the Sixth Phase Government of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
“I’ll ask every minister and other leaders visiting Mara region to come and see this project to ensure that it is completed in time,” he said.
A total of 18.8m/- in cash were collected while 583m/- and 690 bags of cement were pledges from people who attended the occasion.
Directors of local companies working with North Mara Gold Mine were also present at the gathering organized by a non-governmental organization, Health and Safe Delivery Foundation (HSF).
HSF founder director, Emmyliana Range said construction of the Nyamongo ward was aimed at to supporting President Samia’s call on the improvement of health services for the people, especially the vulnerable women and children.
She thanked all stakeholders and leaders who took part in making pledges towards fulfilling the goals of the ambitious project.
“When you save the health of a mother and a child, you’ve saved the nation,” said Range, a young woman who was born at Nyamongo.
The project, planned to cost 2bn/-, will be undertaken at the Sungusungu (Nyangoto) Health Centre.
