Former Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Paul Makonda is back in politics following his appointment as the head of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party Ideology and Publicity Department.
He disappeared from the political scene in 2020 when he sought to become a Member of Parliament of the Kigamboni constituency in Dar es Salaam region, but was defeated by the incumbent legislator Dr Faustine Ndungulile in the preferential polls.
Makonda emerged in politics during former President Jakaya Kikwete’s regime when he was named District Commissioner of the populous Kinondoni area in Dar es Salaam.
At the CCM Ideology and Publicity Department, he replaces Sophia Mjema as the party’s secretary for ideology and publicity. Mjema has been assigned new duties as Advisor to the President in-charge of women, children and special group’s affairs.
The changes of two CCM departmental secretaries were announced yesterday in Dodoma following a special meeting of the powerful National Executive Committee chaired by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
