Majaliwa urges church leaders to mobilise youth for development

Prime Minister Kassima Majaliwa yesterday urged church leaders to mobilise the youth to respect work and perform their duties diligently by using the country’s available resources for their economic wellbeing.

“Our country is endowed with many economic opportunities; and for the community to benefit from the presence of these opportunities we rely on the energy of the youth of how they use the available resources,” he said.

The prime minister made the call during celebrations to mark 125 years of the founding of the Songea Roman Catholic Diocese held at the Peramiho hill in Songea.

He appealed to church institutions in the country to prepare comprehensive programmes on youth upbringing. “Use your positions to put in place systems of close monitoring the upbringing of young men and women,”” he said.

Majaliwa urged the church leaders to cooperate with the government in the implementation of key priority development programmes touching on the welfare of the nation.

“I appeal to you to join us in the campaign of environmental conservation and the use of clean energy, tree-planting and environmental cleanliness, moral erosion, drug abuse and the war against the scourge of corruption,” he said.

The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with the role played by religious denominations with regard to the delivery of social services such as health, education, water and others in the remote areas of the country.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan contributed 10m/- towards the Songea Roman Catholic Diocese in marking its 125 jubilee.

Archbishop of the diocese Damina Dallu thanked the government for helping the Roman Catholic Church to deliver the required services to the people.
