Local contractor thanks Barrick North Mara for business opportunities

Kemanyanki Company Managing Director, Nicholas Mgaya has showered praise on Barrick Gold North Mara, saying as a result of getting business opportunities and jobs, the local community now sees the importance of the goldmine in their area.

Mgaya was speaking during the climax of Kemanyanki Cup tournament on Sunday at Ingwe Secondary School in Nyamongo township, Tarime District where 12 youth teams from 11 villages surrounding the gold mine, had been competing for the cup for two weeks.

He said Kemanyanki Cup competitions have enabled the youth to get the insights of North Mara Gold mine activities and their significance to the community. Moreover, the youth have been able to exchange ideas with their peers on various issues pertaining to their welfare.

“Kemanyanki belongs to the community surrounding North Mara Gold mine. So whenever you see it, just be sure it belongs to you. We want to unleash talents and establish a network to enable us to use the opportunities available, and our focus is on the youth,’’ said Mgaya.

On his part, Tarime Rural Member of Parliament, Mwita Waitara was particularly impressed by cooperation between Barrick Gold North Mara and local companies and the surrounding community.

Waitara commended Kemanyanki, a local company contracted by North Mara, for supporting youth groups in Nyamongo area .

“I commend Kemanyanki for donating the little they have , but I also must thank Barrick Gold North Mara for unwavering support and cooperation,’’ Waitara said.

In the final match of the tournament, Kewanja FC beat Mrito FC 4-2 goals in a penalty shootout and bagged 800,000/-, a medal and jerseys.

Mrito went home with 450,000/- a medal and jerseys while Nyangoto collected 300,000/- a medal and jerseys.

Kemanyanki is one of the local area companies contracted by North Mara Gold mine to offer various services. The company organized the football match tournament as one way of discouraging the youth from invading the gold mine, and encouraging them to earn a lawful income.
