Tanzania Mainland Chama Cha Mapinduzi Vice-Chairman Abdulrahman Kinana has urged the party’s faithful and all Tanzanians at large to avoid entertaining tribalism as it is both an outdated and divisive tradition.
Speaking to members of the Rorya district CCM committee at Shirati town yesterday, Kinana said it was natural for a country to have tribes, but it was wholly poisonous to entertain tribalism in a civilized country like Tanzania.
The CCM stalwart was reacting to accusations from a section of the Rorya CCM district committee members who voiced concern that there things being done in a manner which indicates elements of tribalism.
He reminded his audience that the late Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, was from a small tribe of the Wazanaki and was highly loved, respected and honouree during his rule of more than a quarter a century.
“Don’t elect a person because of his tribe, religion and shape. Don’t judge him or her. These are outdated things,” he said.
Kinana is on a four-day visit of Mara region to assess implementation of the CCM 2020-2025 Election Manifesto, among other party activities.
Yesterday, he visited the Mwalimu Nyerere grave at the nation’s founder president’s home village of Butiama.
