Chama Cha Mapinduzi chairperson President Samia Suluhu Hassan has accepted the resignation of the party’s Vice-Chairmann on the mainland, Abdulrahman Kinana, who wrote her a letter requesting to have a rest.
A statement issued yesterday by the CCM department of ideology, publicity and training, said President Samia thanked the outgoing party stalwart for a job well done in consolidating one of Africa’s oldest and strong political movements.
“It’s true that when I requested you to help us in the position of Vice-Chairman, I promised that you’ll stay for a short time as per your request. I wanted you to continue helping us but you’ve been insistent to your request such that with a heavy heart I’m obliged to accept your resignation,” the CCM chairperson said in the statement
She said CCM would continue to rely on Kinana’s experience and wide knowledge for the benefit of the party.
Previously, Kinana served as the CCM secretary general during the administrations of former presidents Jakaya Kikwete and the late Dr John Magufuli.
Under the second phase government of the late President Ali Hassan Mwinyi, Kinana served as defence minister.
He is also a former Member of Parliament of Arusha Urban constituency.
Meanwhile, President Samia yesterday appointed Jeremiah Yoram Katungu the new Commissioner-General of Prisons.
He takes over from Commissioner-General of Prisons Mzee Ramadhan Nyamka who has retired, according to a State House statement released yesterday.
