A local company, Kemanyanki, has donated 5.6m/- and sports equipment to three schools in Nyamongo area surrounding the North Mara Gold Mine in Tarime district, Mara region.
The donation covers Nyamongo Primary School, which has received 1.5m/- towards paying volunteer teachers, including getting balls and jerseys.
The twin Nyamongo and Ingwe secondary schools have received 3.6m/- and 500,000/- for payment of a volunteer physics teacher in year 2024 and to meet the needs of TYSCS students respectively.
Kemanyanki Human Resources Manager, Selina Mkaro handed over the donation to leaders of the mentioned schools yesterday.
She said the donation was part of her company’s corporate social responsibility to villages surrounding the gold mine and a response to a request made by leaders of the three schools.
Kemanyanki is one of the local companies providing services to the Barrick North Mara Gold Mine owned jointly with the Tanzania government under a subsidiary company, Twiga Minerals Corporation.
Kemanyanki has won credit among residents of the area for providing employment and creating business opportunities as people struggle to meet the challenges of survival.
