Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) in Mwanza region is boasting of remarkable achievements during President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s two-year in power.
Mwanza TARURA Manager Eng. Goodluck Mbanga has said that an increase of the budget for maintenance of rural roads has led to greater achievements to the sector in the region.
Mwanza region has a road network of 8,586.764 kms out of which 95.18 km (1.1 percent) have been built to tarmac level.
Mbanga said 2,498.951 km (29.10 percent) of roads are passable all the year round while roads covering 3,647.645 km (42.48 percent) are in average condition while 2,440.168 km (28.42 percent) are pathetic condition.
According to Mbanga, Mwanza region has 55 bridges, 336 box caravats, 4,500 small caravats and 182 drifts.
“An increment in budgetary allocations has definitely touched a number of strategic areas, including rehabilitation of many district roads compared with the past,” he said.
According to Mbanga, around 10.189bn/- were allocated for the regional road network in 2020/2021, over 26.339bn/- were set aside for the same purpose in 2021/2022 financial year while 25.727bn/- were allocated for all district roads under TARURA for 2022/2023.
