Today is a special May Day for Grumeti Reserves workers as they will be seeing their company rewarding its long serving employees, the best performers and the overall best performer.

“We will recognize all staff who have worked for the company for more than five years, the best performers at departments and the overall best performer at Grumeti companies,’’ Grumeti Reserves Head of People’s Management Martha Baare said in Serengeti over the weekend.

The Head of People’s Management described this year’s labour day as special to Grumeti workers, citing the signing and implementation of the long-awaited collective bargaining agreement that has greatly helped improve their salaries and benefits.

“Staff benefits and salaries have been improved further through this important agreement, signed between Union and Management, “Martha said.

She also said that the company had organized pre- labour day activities for the workers, focusing on staff health and wellness.

“The activities included football matches and May Day run aimed at recognizing workers who are devoted to keeping themselves fit,” explained Martha.

Grumeti Reserves has three sister companies namely Grumeti Fund, Grumeti Construction and Grumeti Air but it’s the former that employs the largest number of workers, with its Tourism Department managed by Singita having the highest number of staff, according to Martha.

Presently, the company constitutes 884 workers, 96.4 percent of whom are Tanzanians. Of these, 60 per cent are hired from Mara Region and villages located near Ikorongo- Grumeti Game Reserves and Ikona Wildlife Management Area (WMA).

Grumeti Reserves is an eco-tourism company that operates several luxurious lodges in Serengeti.

As well as creating many jobs, the company which is owned by an American investor also supports conservation and community development activities in Western Serengeti.
