Effective next year, government will introduce the study of business as a compulsory subject to equip the next generation of Tanzanians with the necessary skills in the changed global socio-economic environment.
In order to build a generation of innovative and business-minded young men and women, the government has directed business-oriented high-learning institutions to come up with a new curriculum to fulfill that goal, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has disclosed.
“On its part, the government through the 2023 training policy, is durecting that beginning 2025/2026 business should be a compulsory subject,” he said in Dodoma yesterday.
He revealed this while opening the 5th business and economic development conference organised by the College of Business, Dodoma Branch.
The Prime Minister said in a world where the labour market, specifically in the public sector, has shrunk, Tanzania needs a generation of people who are business oriented and “don’t wait for government employment.”
“It’s upon colleges of business to go through their curricula to create a generation of business-minded people,” he emphasised.
According to Majaliwa, the public sector, hitherto a major employer before the onset of the current labour crisis, is now filled beyond capacity.
