A sure friend is known in unsure times. That is what Tarangire National Park authorities learned yesterday when they unexpectedly received a boost in the form of equipment worth 75m/- from a friend far away in Europe.
That friend is none other than Friends of Serengeti Switzerland, a society interested in wildlife conservation, which donated tools such as tents, night vision goggles, binoculars, among others, to help Tarangire workers in the monitoring of poachers in the vast park.
The equipment handing over ceremony was held at the park’s head office in Manyara region.
A representative of the Friends of Serengeti Switzerland, Suzan Peter Shio, had a terse message at the ceremony: “No conservation, no tourism. I hope these tools will boost the morale of the game wardens in their day to day activities.”
The head of Tarangire National Park, Senior Assistant Commissioner for Conservationj, Betrice Kessy, was overjoyed to receive the equipment, saying the umbrella organisation, Tanzania National Parks, wholly appreciates the contribution of Friendsh of Serengeti Switzerland towards conservation.
