CCM undergoes rebirth as the young take over from old guards

The ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party is currently undergoing a rebirth with the old guards paving the way for the young in one of Africa’s oldest political movements that stood steadfast in Africa’s liberation struggle against all forms of foreign domination.

At least the majority, if not all, of the party stalwarts under founder president Julius Nyerere, have gone. But, CCM, under the early days of the Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) in Tanzania Mainland and Afro Shiraz Party (ASP) in Zanzibar, isn’t short of visionary leaders; they come and go.

It’s from this background that yesterday the CCM national executive committee (NEC) meeting in the commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, appointed some of its experienced youthful cadres to head its various departments.

Former Arusha Regional Commissioner John Mongela was named Deputy CCM Secretary General, replacing Anamringi Macha, who is now the Shinyanga Regional Commissioner.

Outgoing Mwanza Regional Commissioner, Amos Gabriel Makalla, was named the CCM publicity secretary, replacing Paul Makonda, now the Arusha Regional Commissioner.

Youthful Jokate Mwegelo was named the Secretary-General of the CCM youth wing, VIJANA, after a stint as the Secretary-General of the party`s women wing.
