Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr Doto Biteko, has urged graduates from the country’s higher-learning institutions to strive to work for the majority poor Tanzanians without discriminatory tendencies upon securing government employment or becoming self-employed.

“If you help a poor person, you’ll have helped the majority poor Tanzanians. If you do that, you’ll have given honour to Tanzania,” Dr Biteko said when officiating at the 26th St Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) graduation ceremony held at the Raila Odinga grounds in Mwanza city today.

In his speech, Dr Biteko warned Tanzanian graduates against the creeping disease of pomposity and unnecessary showing off by displaying their certificates, saying a person’s educational value would be measured by their service to the public.

He also urged SAUT graduates to brace up for the challenges ahead after their graduation in a world where survival is for the fittest.

“Life is a struggle,” he said, adding that the secret is perseverance to the emerging challenges.
